About the event
About the Event
By early October, Minnesota’s main mushroom season is beginning to wind down, but the woods are not finished. Cooler temperatures change what is fruiting, while some mushrooms persist well beyond the time most people stop looking.
This is our final foray of the season. Rather than concentrating on one target species, we’ll look at the late-fruiting mushrooms that remain active and the durable fungi that linger from earlier in the season. The focus is learning how to recognize what is still fresh, what has passed its prime and how colder weather changes what we find.
Mushrooms follow weather rather than a calendar, so the site is chosen close to the event based on current rainfall, temperature patterns and where conditions appear most promising. No previous mushroom-identification experience is required.
