Gentleman Forager Launches a Lions Mane Mushroom-Infused Nut Butter at Its Minnesota State Fair Booth

A Lions Mane Mushroom-Infused Nut Butter named “Brain Butter” will be available from the Gentleman Forager booth at the Minnesota State Fair, August 26 to September 6, 2021.

Minneapolis, Minnesota – August 10, 2021 – Gentleman Forager is pleased to announce the launch of its new product, Brain Butter, available at its booth during the State Fair, inside the Grandstand shopping complex, August 26 to September 6, 2021. Gentleman Forager’s Brain Butter is a Lions Mane Mushroom-Infused Nut Butter. This first-of-its-kind, limited-edition, small-batch, ultra-fresh peanut butter features dried Lions Mane mushroom as a main nutritional ingredient. This new product is made in Minnesota just days before the fair to deliver the ultimate in freshness.

“Research has found that lion's mane may protect against dementia, reduce mild symptoms of anxiety and depression, and help repair nerve damage. It also has strong anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and immune-boosting abilities and has been shown to lower the risk of heart disease, cancer, ulcers and diabetes in animals,” said Kempenich. “In a clinical trial, administration of lions mane (in cookies) over four weeks showed a reduction in some symptoms of anxiety and depression in menopausal women. Other studies have revealed regular consumption may promote nerve and brain health and may reduce the risk of neurodegenerative, disease-induced cell death. All of this shows that Lions mane is a superfood, and we are bringing it to the masses in a delicious, premium nut butter.”

Gentleman Forager's Brain Butter is a delicious, premium blend of roasted peanuts and lions mane mushroom topped with crushed cashews and almonds. Enjoy it on a sandwich, toast, bagel, pancakes or waffles. Or feature it as a wildly unique ingredient for cooking and baking any recipe that calls for peanut butter. We think eating better is easiest when it’s wildly tasty!

“We specialize in wild-sourced or wildly unique products, and our new Lions Mane Mushroom-Infused Brain Butter is certainly that,” said Gentleman Forager President and Founder Mike Kempenich. “We are excited about our new, high-quality, mushroom-peanut butter. This one-and-only, premium spread delivers excellent, fresh flavor—and because it’s infused with Lions mane mushrooms—it’s a product that simply is not available anywhere else on the planet,” said Gentleman Forager President and Founder Mike Kempenich. “It’s also protein-packed and gluten-free. We call it smart food for a healthy brain.”

As a company, Gentleman Forager is all about revolutionizing the way mushrooms and other wild foods are integrated into people’s lifestyles. To do this, they work with remarkable chefs, farmers, roasters and others to craft delicious, small-batch, specialty foods that only use wildly unique ingredients and recipes. Other featured products at their Minnesota State Fair booth include a wild black walnut candy bar; urban farm-raised, seasoned cricket snacks; fresh mushrooms; grow-at-home mushroom log kits, mushroom soap, foraging tools and much more.

Gentleman Forager Features a Wild-Harvested Black Walnut Candy Bar at Its Minnesota State Fair Booth

A wild-harvested black walnut candy bar named “Wild Black Walnut Log”, plus salted & roasted black walnut snack packs will be available from the Gentleman Forager booth at the Minnesota State Fair, August 26 to September 6, 2021.

Minneapolis, Minnesota – August 8, 2021 – Gentleman Forager is pleased to announce wild black walnuts will be available for sale at its booth during the State Fair, inside the Grandstand shopping complex, August 26 to September 6, 2021. The snacks will include a first-of-its-kind, limited-edition, small-batch candy bar using natural, wild-sourced black walnuts as its main ingredient.

“We are excited about our new, high-quality, wild-food candy concept. This one-and-only, premium candy bar features wild black walnuts rolled over caramel and vanilla nougat. It delivers a salty-sweet taste combination not experienced anywhere else,” said Gentleman Forager President and Founder Mike Kempenich. “Our concept was to celebrate and elevate a traditional nut roll recipe by topping it with wild, hand-harvested black walnuts instead of peanuts. The flavor of our ‘Wild Black Walnut Log’ (nut roll) is bold, complex, fruity and bittersweet. It really makes for an incredible candy bar. Our addictively sweet and salty wild treats will have State Fair goers reaching for more.”

Wild black walnuts, native to North America, take more effort to harvest than commercially grown English walnuts, and their taste is wildly unique compared to ordinary, common English walnuts. Although many of the trees growing in the U.S. were intentionally planted as a hardwood resource, they were left out in the wild to fend for themselves: Often seeding and propagating themselves throughout the woods with help from squirrels. The entire annual black walnut harvest in this nation is collected by hand by individual foragers for use as a wild food source.

“If you are not a wild-food forager, you might be surprised to learn that all black walnuts sold in stores across the country are wild foraged—unlike its cousin the English walnut, grown in huge commercial farms in California. Harvesting American black walnuts is a hobby many foragers deeply enjoy every autumn, but only in a handful of Midwestern and Eastern states,” said Kempenich. “Foragers love being in the great outdoors during the beautiful Fall weather, picking up each nut by hand to use as an excellent ingredient in homemade baked goods, treats or savory dishes. Now, we are bringing its natural appeal to the masses through incredibly delicious candy bars and conveniently bagged snacks.”

Black walnuts are wildly sourced, grown in the U.S.A., heart healthy, gluten free, non-GMO and an excellent source of magnesium and other nutrients. They are reported to be the highest protein nut with 7 grams per serving and have 57 percent more protein versus English walnuts. The flavor profile is described by chefs as bold and robust with character and depth. They are a popular ingredient for ice cream, confections and baked goods.

“Black walnut trees are abundant in our state, even a few trees growing on the State Fair grounds. But we Minnesotans often just ignore them. However, the black walnut harvest is a big tradition among hundreds of thousands of individuals in states such as Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, Kansas, and other states, during a typical six-week timeframe in the fall,” said Kempenich. “Unfortunately, this natural, healthy and sustainable food source is neglected and unused in many regions of the Midwest. We are spearheading a movement to change this. To start, we see the Minnesota State Fair as a prime opportunity to try this delicious nut. In addition to our premium candy bar, we will also offer wild black walnuts sold in convenient 2-ounce snack-size, perfect for on-the-go snacking.”
